Privacy policy

Last updated 5 October 2026

Steve's Painting Services respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it and how you can access or correct it. We are a small business, and regardless of whether the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies to us, we handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Who we are

What we collect

We only collect the information we need to respond to you and do the job. That may include:

  • your name, phone number and suburb, and anything you write in the quote form
  • your email address, if you email us
  • the address of the property and details about the work, when we quote or carry out a job
  • records of quotes, invoices and payments

When you visit this website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view. This is standard for any website and is used for security and to keep the site running.

We don't ask for sensitive information, and we ask that you don't include it in the quote form.

How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you: through the quote form on this website, by phone, by email, or in person when we visit to quote or work. We don't buy contact lists or collect your details from other businesses.

Why we use it

  • to reply to your enquiry and prepare a quote
  • to schedule and carry out the work
  • to invoice you and keep business records
  • to meet our legal obligations, such as tax and licensing requirements
  • to protect the website from spam and misuse

We won't add you to a mailing list, and we never sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Cookies and tracking

This website doesn't use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. The site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers and Google receives your IP address. You can read how Google handles this in the Google Privacy Policy.

Who we share it with

We only share your information when it's needed to run the business, and only with:

  • our website host, Netlify, which hosts this site and receives and stores quote form submissions. Submissions are screened for spam by Netlify and the filtering services it uses
  • our email provider, Google, which delivers and stores our email
  • our accountant or bookkeeper, for tax and financial records
  • government authorities or others, where the law requires or allows it

Overseas storage

Netlify and Google are based in the United States, so information you send through this website or by email is likely to be stored on servers in the United States and possibly other countries where those providers operate. We use these providers because they are well established and have their own security and privacy protections in place.

How we keep it safe

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including using reputable service providers, keeping accounts password protected and limiting access to the people who need it. We keep information only for as long as we need it, including for record keeping required by law, and then securely delete or destroy it.

If a data breach ever occurred that was likely to cause you serious harm, we would let you know as soon as possible and tell you what to do.

Dealing with us anonymously

You're welcome to ask general questions without giving your name. To give you a quote or do any work, though, we'll need your name and a way to contact you.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by calling or emailing us using the details above. We'll respond within 30 days and won't charge you for making a request. If we can't give you access for a legal reason, we'll explain why.

Making a complaint

If you're concerned about how we've handled your personal information, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. We'll respond within 30 days.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
